색채로 빚어낸 근대의 미학, 그림이라는 별세계

《그림이라는 별세계: 이건희컬렉션과 함께》는 한국 근현대 미술의 거장들이 추구했던 회화적 본질을 탐구하며, 기증된 이건희컬렉션의 예술적 가치를 조명하는 전시입니다. 논스탠다드는 이번 전시의 공간 디자인을 맡아, 관람객이 전시장 입구에 들어서는 순간 일상의 흐름을 벗어나 예술이 제안하는 진정한 ‘별세계(Otherworld)’에 몰입할 수 있도록 설계했습니다.

가장 중점을 둔 부분은 한국 근대미술이 지닌 독특한 아름다움을 현대적인 감각의 색채로 승화시키는 것이었습니다. 각 작가의 작품 세계를 가장 돋보이게 할 수 있는 전용 컬러를 선정하여 섹션을 나누었으며, 이 세심한 컬러칩은 실제 도색에 이르기까지 아주 사려 깊게 선택되어 작품의 분위기와 소재를 더욱 풍성하게 뒷받침합니다.

공간은 벽면에서 시작된 컬러가 바닥까지 하나로 이어지도록 연출되어 시각적인 경계를 허물고 무한히 확장되는 듯한 깊이감을 선사합니다. 동선을 따라 배치된 아치형의 오픈 게이트는 자칫 평면적일 수 있는 공간에 고전적이고 우아한 리듬감을 더하며, 관람객을 더욱 깊숙한 예술의 세계로 안내합니다.

다양한 컬러가 공존함에도 불구하고 전체 공간이 하나의 일체감 있는 서사로 읽히는 것은, 논스탠다드만의 정제된 공간 언어 덕분입니다. 관람객은 이 조화로운 공간 안에서 작품과 색채, 그리고 구조가 만들어내는 가장 감각적인 예술적 경험을 향유하게 됩니다.

A Sensory Odyssey into the "World of Paintings"

The exhibition "A World of Paintings: On the Lee Kun-hee Collection" invites visitors to explore the profound essence of Korean modern art through the lens of legendary masters. Nonstandard designed this exhibition space to ensure that the moment visitors step inside, they are transported into a true "Otherworld," a realm where everyday reality fades and the vivid language of art takes center stage.

Our design philosophy was to sublimate the unique aesthetic of Korean modern art into a sophisticated palette of colors. We divided the exhibition into sections using colors specifically curated to enhance the distinct characteristics of each artist's work. These hues were meticulously selected and applied with deep consideration—from the initial mixing of pigments to the final coat on the walls—ensuring a perfect harmony with the mood and materiality of the paintings.

To create an immersive environment, we extended the color of the walls seamlessly down to the floor, naturally expanding the spatial boundaries and erasing visual distractions. Arched open gates placed along the path add a classical, poetic rhythm to the movement of the audience, transforming the walk into a graceful journey through time and art.

Despite the vibrant diversity of colors used throughout the gallery, the space remains unified through a singular, refined design language. This intentional cohesion allows visitors to engage in a highly sensory and evocative experience, where the architecture itself becomes a silent yet powerful guide to the masterpieces on display.
