힐마 아프 클린트 재단, 도쿄국립근대미술관, 니혼게이자이신문과의 협력을 통해 도쿄국립근대미술관에서 부산현대미술관으로 이어지는 아시아 첫 순회전으로, 스웨덴을 대표하는 예술가 힐마 아프 클린트(Hilma af Klint, 1862~1944)의 작품 세계를 국내에 본격적으로 소개한 전시다. 전시는 도쿄국립근대미술관과 동일하게 힐마 아프 클린트의 주요 회화 연작을 중심으로 드로잉과 기록 자료를 포함한 총 139점의 작품을 선보이며, 연대의 흐름을 기본으로 작가의 사유와 질문을 따라가는 전시 구성과 한국추상미술과의 비교, 신지학, 여성주의미술 등 다양한 주제를 포함하여 그녀의 예술 세계가 지닌 사유의 깊이와 맥락을 더욱 정밀하게 조망한다. 7개의 장면으로 구성된 전시는 자연에 관한 관심과 관찰이 드러나는 초기 작업부터 밀도 있는 후기 수채화까지 망라하는 구성으로 디자인되었다. 전체적인 공간은 작가의 생애와 작업의 흐름을 따라 시간의 순서에 기반해 총 7개의 장면으로 구성된다. 이 장면들은 단지 시간의 순차적 배열에 그치지 않고 계속해서 교차하며 매 순간 작가가 마주한 질문의 결이 어떻게 변화하고 응축되었는지를 보여준다.

'Hilma af Klint: A Proper Summons' is the first Asian touring exhibition organized in collaboration with the Hilma af Klint Foundation, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and Nikkei Inc., traveling from the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, to the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition offers a comprehensive introduction to the work of Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), one of Sweden’s most significant artists. Mirroring the presentation in Tokyo, the exhibition features 139 works, including major painting cycles alongside drawings and archival materials. Structured around a chronological framework, the exhibition traces the evolution of the artist’s thinking and the questions that shaped her practice, while situating her work in dialogue with Korean abstract art, Theosophy, and feminist art history. Through these multiple perspectives, the exhibition closely examines the depth and intellectual context of af Klint’s artistic vision. The exhibition is designed as a sequence of seven scenes that follow the trajectory of the artist’s life and work, from early pieces rooted in close observation of nature to the densely layered watercolors of her later years. While grounded in a linear progression of time, these scenes continually intersect, revealing how the nature of her inquiries shifted, deepened, and became increasingly concentrated over the course of her life.
